Over 2,000 Newport residents receive emergency food from the Newport Food Pantry. Thanks to the Letter Carriers Food Drive, now in its 20th year, helping your hungry friends and neighbors is as easy as walking to your mailbox. Simply purchase nonperishable food items during your regular shopping trip and put them in a secure bag or box. On Saturday, place the bag near your mail box around the time of your regular delivery. Your postal carrier will take it from there.
“The problem of hunger in our community has never been greater and we need your help to make this year’s food drive a success. Hundreds of local families depend on this food.” said Katherine Myers, Executive Director of the Newport Food Pantry. “We appreciate any food donation. Items that are always needed include canned meats, canned fruits, peanut butter, cereal, canned vegetables, and canned ready-to-eat meals.”
Monetary donations are also needed in order to meet regular expenses and purchase additional food. Please visit our website at www.newportfoodpantry.org to find out how you can help.
