“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
Wouldn’t that make a good inscription to have on the outside wall of the Newport Food Pantry! We have over 2,100 tired, poor, hungry, homeless, and tempest-tost people right here in Newport who are registered to come to the pantry when they need an emergency food supply. And we are currently low or completely out of some of the staples that are always requested. Canned pineapple (out), peanut butter (4 jars left), jam (out), beef stew (2 cans left), canned pumpkin (2 cans left), canned chili (out), cooking oil (1 bottle left), vinegar (1 bottle left), mustard (out), and canned peas (4 cans left) are some of the basics we need help restocking here at the pantry.
Food donations can be dropped off here at the pantry Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM, and Saturday morning until noon. If the pantry location and hours aren’t convenient for you, many wonderful organizations and businesses keep our food collection containers on site. For a complete list, please go to http://newportfoodpantry.org and click on the donate link.
We are extremely grateful for the amazing generosity of the Newport community. Thank you.
