Oregon Coast Today has gone underground with some deep investigative reporting on a scandalous assault upon one of Lincoln City’s most revered methods of attracting tourists. And what’s worse…Mayor Dick Anderson is not only responsible, he’s at the “root” of the problem.
Oregon Coast Today has also launched a campaign to preserve Depoe Bay’s great “outdoor public shower” created courtesy of Mother Nature and the Pacific Ocean. But it seems that a few uppity Depoe Bay blue bloods have taken issue with the eruptions of sea water spouting up from the rocks below, showering unsuspecting tourists who innocently park up against the sea wall. Answering a cry for help from those Depoe Bay elite who insist that tourists enjoy a more gentile experience along the town’s bayfront, ODOT is proposing to fill in those seaward blowholes with concrete to stop what’s been termed “a rude, if not raw assault on tourists who come to Depoe Bay to enjoy themselves only to become drenched and shivered by the unruly behavior of rogue sea swells.” Oregon Coast Today describes Depoe Bay business leaders’ heroic efforts to preserve those spectacular street showers despite fuddy-duddy opposition from ODOT and Mayor Carol Connors’ “Depoe Bay Dry Streets Committee” who have planned a support rally for ODOT’s massive concrete trucks to line up, butt first, over the sea wall and thereby restore sanity to Depoe Bay’s tourist environment.
