THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PORTLAND HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WATCH FOR WESTERN OREGON THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

* HEAVY RAIN IS EXPECTED TODAY THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY. RAINFALL TOTALS ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE FROM 3 TO 7 INCHES NEAR THE COAST…IN THE COAST RANGE…WILLAPA HILLS AND CASCADE FOOTHILLS…WITH 1 TO 3 INCHES EXPECTED IN THE WILLAMETTE
VALLEY.

* BANKFUL TO NEAR FLOOD STAGE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED ON MANY RIVERS. FLOODING IS POSSIBLE THROUGH SATURDAY ON SOME OF THE COASTAL RIVERS… WILLAMETTE TRIBUTARIES AND THE MAINSTEM WILLAMETTE SOUTH OF SALEM.

* SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS WILL ALSO EXPERIENCE RISES IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS THAT COULD LEAD TO LOWLAND FLOODING.

LANDSLIDES AND DEBRIS FLOWS ARE POSSIBLE DURING THIS FLOOD EVENT. PEOPLE…STRUCTURES AND ROADS LOCATED BELOW STEEP SLOPES…IN CANYONS AND NEAR THE MOUTHS OF CANYONS MAY BE AT SERIOUS RISK FROM RAPIDLY MOVING LANDSLIDES.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP.
