Lincoln County narcotics investigators have arrested two Newport men on charges of trafficking heroin in the area. The Lincoln Interagency Narcotics Team (LINT) reports that they assisted Newport Police as well as local parole and probation agents in arresting Casey Jones, 21, (left photo) who was found in possession of heroin, a handgun and other evidence. Jones was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on charges of unlawful possession and delivery of heroin, as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The next day, on a tip, LINT detectives waited on Highway 20 at the Benton-Lincoln County line for a specific vehicle from Portland that was said to be delivering heroin to Lincoln county customers. They didn’t have to wait long to spot the vehicle and they pulled it over. Detectives, with the assistance of a drug-sniffing dog, discovered the car was carrying heroin which led to the arrest of Wiley Joe Pearce, 24, (right photo) of Newport. LINT detectives say Pearce appeared to be delivering up to 2 ounces of heroin to the Lincoln County area.
Pearce was arrested and placed in the Lincoln County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail. Jones was being held on a no bail hold for violation of his parole mainly for an earlier conviction in addition to the new charges.
