Newport Senior Activity Center Director Peggy O’Callahan accepts a $1,000 fundraising check from the Newport Senior Activity Center Association. The association is made up of a lot of great seniors who sell calendars, have little parties and teas and run the gift shop at the center. O’Callahan says they’re all excited that the center is very close to acquiring enough funds to buy a new transportation van, dubbed the “Van-Go” project, which they no doubt consider to be artistry in motion as they travel about the area of fun field trips. The Association provides Lincoln County seniors with a variety of excursions including their annual Boat Trip with Discovery Tours that offers a beautiful tour up the Yaquina River. They also help with the big September Senior Picnic at Big Creek Park. They also give a monthly contribution to Meals on Wheels.
Those who would like to join their association are certainly cordially invited to do so by coming to one of their meetings, which are on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, 10:30am, at the Senior Center. Dues are two dollars a year.
