Hate crime slayer gets life without parole in WA – Lincoln County DA waiting to prosecute him and girlfriend
The wheels of justice have produced the first conviction and sentencing in the aftermath of a killing spree that stretched from Washington State, through Lincoln County and down into California.
Joey Pedersen pleaded guilty to killing his father and step mother in suburban Seattle last year in a fit of rage over allegations that his father molested his children. Dee Dee Pedersen, his step-mother, never knew about the allegations according to investigators.
Defiant to the end, Pedersen was sent to prison with no chance of parole. Pedersen’s accused accomplice, Holly Griggs faces murder charges for her participation in the killing of Dee Dee Pedersen. No word on how long her legal proceedings might take according to Lincoln County District Attorney Rob Bovett. Bovett said after Grigsby is tried in Snohomish County, he wants them both brought to Lincoln County to face charges of killing Lafayette teen Cody Myers. Myers was a devout christian, although Pedersen told authorities he killed Myers while Myers was attending a jazz festival in Newport, because he had a “jewish sounding last name.” Later, police say, Pedersen and Grigsby traveled to Eureka, CA where they allegedly murdered Reginald Clark, a black man.
Bovett said that because the murders of Myers and Clark appear to be religious and racial hate crimes, federal prosecutors may step in and put them on trial in federal court. He said he’s not sure which way it’ll go.
