Frequent election challenger Tom Runions has filed as the lone Republican challenger in the race for Lincoln County Commission Position Two, currently held by Democrat Bill Hall. Runions ran unsuccessfully against Don Lindly two years ago and unsuccessfully against Hall in 2008. Hall faces a single challenger, a relative newcomer to the Central Coast, Ken Lundie, from the San Francisco Bay area where he retired as a local firefighter and served a number of years as a harbor commissioner in Santa Clara.
Runions is a local contractor who is a former employee of the county public works department. He ran last time on a campaign of cutting government waste and funneling more county dollars toward local contractors rather than hiring out-of-towners. Hall and his fellow commissioners were told last year by county Public Works Director Jim Buisman that the county spends over 80% of it’s public works project dollars with local contractors but that some jobs are just too big or complex and so must be entrusted to large regional firms that have extensive and proven experience with those kinds of projects. Runions rejected that conclusion.
