The Coast Guard has rescued a fishing vessel and its crew 17 miles off the coast of Brookings, after receiving a distress call shortly before noon Sunday. The Coast Guard reports that the fishing vessel Njord had taken on about two feet of water in its engine room it was getting worse.
A 47-foot Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat stationed at their Chetco River facility and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter based in North Bend raced to the scene and took over. Soon they had the F/V Njord pumped out and under tow to Brookings. There were no injuries.
