President Barack Obama on Friday declared Lincoln and other Oregon counties major federal (FEMA) disaster areas. With the declaration comes Federal Emergency Management Area funds to help communities recover from sever winter storms from earlier this year.
Benton, Columbia, Coos, Curry, Douglas, Hood River, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, Marion, Polk and Tillamook counties all received funds to mitigate the severe winter storm, flooding, landslides, mudslides and road destruction that occurred between Jan. 17 and 21. The funds are to assist emergency work and repair or replace disaster damaged facilities.
Additional disaster declarations may be made at a future date, according to a release from the WhiteHouse. A call just went out from Lincoln County Emergency Services to private and business property owners to apply for FEMA assistance who missed the first deadline for applying.
