The Willamette Valley, especially the northern end toward Portland, got a wintery blast of wind and snow last evening. From the pictures you can see the unmistakable glare of black ice that has caused numerous accidents across the region. Highway 20 from Eddyville east saw a number of accidents that kept ODOT and tow truck drivers up all night.
Driving along the coast is fine but watch for slick spots in shaded area. Highway 6 from Tillamook to the Portland metro is pictured as is a sanded stretch of Highway 18 at the 22 Junction that heads for Salem and Portland. Highway 20 is open with traffic flowing freely to the valley, according to ODOT and Oregon State Police.

7:45am Update from ODOT
Slick winter road conditions are creating problems on most roads in the mid Willamette Valley this morning. Motorists should consider delaying any unnecessary travel, if possible, or be prepared for severe winter driving conditions. Icy conditions have caused a number of crashes on state highways. Motorists will need to drive slowly, expect slow traffic, keep a safe distance and leave plenty of travel time.
