Teens burg a house, steal car, wreck it…
Lincoln City Police were dispatched to a residence near SW 66th Street in the Cutler City area on a report of suspicious activity. At about 12:30 pm. an alert citizen observed 4 teenage subjects in and around a summer residence that should not have been occupied and phoned the police. The subjects fled prior to police arrival.
Officers determined the residence had been entered and left in disarray. Large quantities of food and alcohol had been consumed and it appeared the suspects had stayed at least one night in the residence.
While Officers were processing the scene for evidence, the owner of the residence ( Dr. ) Elizabeth Vanderveer of Lake Oswego, Oregon, was contacted by phone. It was then learned that Ms. Vanderveer’s 2003 BMW had been stolen from the attached garage. A short time later, investigating officers were advised that the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and North Lincoln Fire and Rescue had responded to a single vehicle crash on SE Schooner Creek Rd. near mile post 3. Responders found the BMW belonging to Vanderveer had left the roadway, destroyed a utility pole and totaled the vehicle. The occupants had fled prior to their arrival. Attempts to contact Vanderveer that night were unsuccessful.
The next day, the investigating Officers located items inside the BMW that did not belong to Vanderveer. These items provided information, along with other evidence, which has led to the arrest of four Lincoln City area youths, ages 14 to17.
The juveniles have been charged with Burglary I, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Mischief and Theft. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Dept. will have charges against driver of Felony Failure to Perform Duties of a Driver, misdemeanor Fail to Perform Duties of Driver, & Criminal Mischief I, stemming from the crash of the stolen BMW.
The investigation continues and more arrests are expected according to police.
