Another one of those “techie wow” moments on Interstate 84 near The Dalles. An OSP trooper spotted a car driving erratically and pulled it over. While trying to communicate with the driver the trooper quickly ascertained that the man, of chinese descent, was suffering some kind of medical issue. The driver spoke little English and so the trooper whipped out his cell phone and called up an app that translates Mandarin into English and English to Mandarin. The trooper quickly determined the man was suffering a diabetic attack and quickly summoned an ambulance. Paramedics quickly confirmed the driver’s condition and whisked him away to a local hospital.
After treatment at Mid-Columbia Medical Center, the man’s son drove down from Seattle and took his father home.
All in a days work.
