A forty year old Portland man who fled a traffic stop with a number of patrol cars eventually catching up with him, crashed his car near Kernville Sunday nigh at around 11:15pm. A Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office news release indicates that Matthew Shearer was pulled over for a minor traffic violation near Otter Rock off Highway 101. When the deputy began talking with Shearer, the deputy said Shearer gunned his motor and took off northbound on 101.
The deputy pursued Shearer northbound on Highway 101 at speeds over 100 miles an hour. The deputy called for back up from other agencies and they too jumped in the chase. Eventually Shearer lost control of his car, hit the guard rail just south of Kernville and crashed his vehicle, a silver Volvo sedan.
Shearer was transported to North Lincoln Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. He was then transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he was charged with attempting to elude officers, reckless driving, reckless endangering of other people and criminal mischief. Shearer’s bail was set at $95,000.
