The Coast Guard has closed the bars for Siuslaw, Yaquina Bay, Depoe Bay, Coos Bay, Tillamook and Columbia River bars. The Coast Guard said bar conditions are hazardous enough to ban ALL vessels from approaching the bar due to high surf.
Vessels seeking special passage must contact the Coast Guard at 503-861-6211 or on VHF-FM Channel 16 to make their request. Below is a terrific shot of Depoe Bay’s famous instant showers on spectators. Thank You J. Pearson for timing it just right!!
Meanwhile, Vivian Mills was out in the weather this afternoon, and captured some of the hard-edged storminess coming ashore in the Seal Rock area. Winter was a late start, but boy did it arrive this week! Making up for lost time! Vivian’s photos are the two below.
Jason Durrett lives in the Bayshore area of Waldport and took a quick look around the perpetually “sandedin” homes at the south end of Oceana Drive. Makes ya scratch your head and wonder “what were they thinking?” when county officials approved the construction of the homes down near the Jaws. Of course they’d never be approved today, what with the much tighter restrictions on duneback building activity. Here’s a few of Jason’s photos:
