Lara Carmen, Jessica Stanley and “Mr. Anonymous” sent us these pictures of what is happening to so many roads along the coast. The ground gets super saturated with water, and just can’t hold itself together, falling down grade, taking everything (including the road) with it. Public Works Director Jim Buisman’s “to do” list these days is a lot longer than the county has money for. It’s a good thing that the County Commissioners declared the county a disaster area and that Governor John Kitzhaber agreed with that assessment before the afternoon was over. It means Uncle FEMA will soon be in town to assess the damage and arrange for repairs.
In the meantime, a lot of folks are looking for a detour that doesn’t cost ’em a tank of gas to go to the store.
