Economic Development Survey
The Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Committee is conducting a survey in an effort to gather information about perception of Newport from both a livability and business climate standpoint. The information will allow us to gain insight and develop a strategy as our committee and partners such as the City of Newport and the Port of Newport move forward in Economic Development planning. Citizens Police Academy
The Newport Police Department is pleased to announce the dates of the third Citizens Police Academy. The Citizens Academy is designed to give participants an overview of the various aspects of the Newport Police Department’s function and operational procedures. The Academy runs ten consecutive weeks, with weekly meetings every Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age to attend the Citizens Academy. There is no cost to participate in the Citizens Academy. The Newport Police Citizens Academy is scheduled to begin on March 7, 2012 and conclude on May 09, 2012. Gold Motors Hosts Business After Hours
The January Business After Hours Reception is this Thursday, the 19th and will be held at Gold Motors! All Chamber members and Guests are invited to attend this complimentary networking event from 5:15 to 7pm.
CASA of Lincoln County Training Scheduled
Volunteers needed to serve as CASAs (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for children. CASAs advocate in court on behalf of children who were abused and neglected and are now in foster care. Training will be January 30 – February 3 each day from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. An Advocate’s roles are investigation, problem solving, monitoring a case, and reporting to the court.
The training will include the following topics: the legal system, conducting an investigation, confidentiality, working with the Department of Human Services, Citizen Review Boards, and the Juvenile Court. The training will be held in the CASA office conference room at 644 S.W. Coast Highway, Suite I.
