Reminder: Big fundraiser dinner coming up for MidCoast Watershed Council

Fisher Poet Moe Bowstern Featured at Fun-raiser at Local Ocean Seafoods Upstairs, Saturday, February 4th

Moe Bowstern, Fisher Poet, writer and performer will share her salty tales (and maybe even some sea songs) at the upcoming MidCoast Watersheds Council Fun-raiser at Local Ocean Seafoods on Saturday, February 4th, 2012 at 5 p.m. In 1986 Moe went to sea as a deckhand and cook, the only woman on an all-male fishing vessel in Alaska. Moe will share her experiences with salmon and the sea, fueled by her vivid creativity, for an evening of hilarity and storytelling at a benefit dinner and silent auction for the MCWC. Come help celebrate the work that the MidCoast Watersheds Council (MCWC) does on the central Oregon Coast to protect salmon and water quality while enjoying fabulous fresh, local food and extraordinary entertainment.

MidCoast Watersheds council is a Newport-based nonprofit group that works to maintain productive watersheds and salmon populations. To date, over the 14 years of its work, the Watersheds Council has brought over $8.42 million dollars into the local economy. Over $7 million of this has been used to support local labor and contracts that have put projects “on the ground”. These projects help salmon migrate to and from their spawning grounds, improve water quality, and conserve and restore important river and estuary habitat. Come enjoy appetizers, dinner and drinks while supporting the vital work that the Council does.

The event begins at 5:00 p.m. upstairs at Local Ocean Seafoods, 213 Southeast Bay Blvd, in Newport. The menu features a Dungeness crab quesadilla appetizer, baked ling cod or a Walker Farms roasted chicken and other delicacies, a free drink and dessert. Local Ocean owner, Laura Anderson, will be hosting a dock walk highlighting the salmon fishery at 4:00 p.m. prior to the event. Tickets ($60, part of the cost tax deductable) are available at the MCWC/Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation District offices near JC Thriftway (541-265-2631) or by contacting Lisa Mulcahy at yaquinawatershedcouncil@gmail.com.
