Depoe Bay man who accidentally shot girlfriend pleads guilty – gets probation with lots of conditions
A man who accidentally shot his girlfriend in the head last October has been sentenced to three years probation by pleading guilty to third degree assault. Charges of negligently wounding another person and recklessly endangering a person were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea.
Kenneth Ames and his girlfriend Lovena Terry were at his Depoe Bay home October 24th when Ames accidentally discharged a pistol at Terry’s head, wounding her. The wound was not fatal, Terry telling 9-1-1 dispatchers that it was an accident. She is still recovering from the wound. Ames was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. Both Ames and Terry were said to be intoxicated at the time.
His probation conditions, that stay in effect for three years, include violate no laws, stay either working or in school full time, stay away from criminals, no alcohol, no frequenting of bars, be available on a random basis for search of his person, residence, vehicle and personal property, submit to random blood, saliva or urine tests, no firearms, no contact with the victim Lovena Terry or anyone she lives with, must attend Alcoholic Anonymous meetings and provide proof of attendance, and enter into an alcohol rehab program if determine necessary.
In addition, Ames must pay nearly $4,500 in fines, fees and court hosts.
