News Release from Newport Police:
Newport Police Officers were dispatched early New Year’s morning to a robbery that had just occurred at the South Beach Grocery on South Highway 101. Upon investigation, Officers learned the suspect threatened the store clerk with a knife, demanded money, and then ran north from the location. Officers responding to the area saw a male matching the subject’s description on SE 32rd Street in South Beach. Once the subject saw the officers, he ran south behind some storage buildings.
