Traffic signals and about 700 Central Lincoln PUD customers were without power today for up to 49 minutes until crews could fix the problem. As it turned out a lightning arrester failed which set off a chain of events aimed at protecting a very expensive transformer which was switched off; and that switched off power to all those people and traffic lights.
CLPUD crews swung into action, isolated the failure and used a loop feed as another way to get power back to most of the customers in the outage area. Then they closed an auxiliary breaker which got everybody back on.
Simple as that.
