Provided by Newport Food Pantry
Newport Walmart store Manager Stacy Mitchell (center) joined by Assistant Manager Buffy Scruggs (left) hands a $500 check to Newport Food Pantry Manager Kathy Myers from participation in their recent VAP Program which stands for Volunteerism Always Pays. Walmart encourages all of their associates (employees) to get involved in charitable organizations that matter to their families and the communities where they live and work. This check was in addition to a recent $1,000 facility grant from the Walmart Foundation to the Pantry and their Fighting Hunger Together program to help alleviate hunger.
Walmart of Newport is also a Newport Food Pantry food donation drop off site. Two barrels are located in the main entry way and Walmart shoppers are encouraged to “buy one more for the Pantry” and deposit the canned good or none perishable item in one of the barrels. All donations stay in Newport to fight hunger here.
