ODOT announced Wednesday that they expect to see a resumption of the $200 million “plus” Highway 20 Project this Spring. But the four bridges in the middle of the project may be dropped. Large, expensive to control, earth movements make bridge footings unstable. Short of fixing the problem ODOT says it appears they may have to build that section of highway “at grade” on some kind of elevated fill. Details have yet to be finalized with the contractor, Granite Construction.
The four bridge locations that are in the cross-hairs are Eddy “C”, Eddy “B”, Crystal Creek and Cougar Creek, again roughly at the midway spot in the project. ODOT says it is awaiting a re-design for an elevated grade across the drainages. ODOT says once designed and construction resumed, it will take two more construction seasons to finish the project. It was originally forecast to be completed by 2009.
