Everyone has been so generous putting food in our barrels at Walmart and participating in the food drive at Safeway. We distributed 1952 pounds of food yesterday alone so your donations have been very much appreciated by the 112 people who received groceries and the 53 who visited the bread only area. One family with four children is living in their car at South Beach State Park. Thank you, Newport, for helping make sure that no child in our city goes to bed hungry.
We do still need lots of tuna, peanut butter and cereal. We have barrels and bins at Umpqua Bank, Jan’s Pool Supply, Walmart, Animal Medical Care (pet food), Longview Hills Community Center, Pacific Homes Beach Club, Church of the Nazarene, South Beach Christian Fellowship, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atonement Lutheran, and Newport Foursquare. First Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church take donations on the first Sunday of each month.
Of course, monetary donations are always welcome. We can purchase some food at discounted prices from the Food Share Warehouse so your dollar does stretch quite a bit. Please make checks payable to Newport Food Pantry, P. O. Box 1415, Newport, OR 97365.
