Governor Kitzhaber stops the death penalty in Oregon

Governor John Kitzhaber today stepped in to the breach and stopped the scheduled execution of double murderer Gary Haugen, who was set to die early next month. Kitzhaber said it was not out of compassion for Haugen, rather it’s, what he called, Oregon’s procedure in determining who should be put to death for what crimes.
