Saying it’s just too dangerous to remove fallen trees across Highway 18, ODOT officials have decided to postpone road clearing operations until tomorrow. Crews went in at around noon on OR 18 at milepost 15 and were immediately chased out by trees that continue to fall across the highway in the Van Duzen area.
ODOT decided that there isn’t enough daylight left in the day today to give crews enough time to get in and get out before dark. Working in the dark with many unstable trees in the area is extremely hazardous so they’ll wait until sometime tomorrow to go back in and try to clear the road.
A decent detour is Highway 22 that goes north out of Grand Ronde to the coast, connecting at Highway 101 at Hebo.
