Unemployment fraud swamps office investigators
Oregon has issued over three billion dollars in unemployment benefits checks since since the recession slapped down the American economy. Over three hundred million of that went to people that weren’t supposed to get checks or who were not longer eligible to get checks. Employment office officials complain that budget cuts decimated their ability to track down such fraud, some investigators having caseloads in the hundreds. Not doable, they say, no matter how good an investigator is.
