Newport Police and Sheriff’s deputies foot-chase down wanted man
Noah Bird, apprehended by NPD and LCSO officers
Newport Police spotted a man wanted on a state-wide warrant near the Newport Library early Friday afternoon. When the officer tried to detain the man, he took off running north on Nye. Officers say Noah Bird, who has a long criminal record, ran down into a heavily wooded canyon off Third Street, just south of Nye.
Officers, with guns drawn, surrounded the area. Officers went in and found Bird hiding in the brush. He was immediately apprehended. He was cuffed and marched back up to the road where he was placed in the back of a patrol car. He was soon enroute to the county jail where he was expected to be booked for attempt to elude offices. As it turned out, the warrant was a statewide warrant out of Linn County for possession of dangerous drugs. He also had an earlier charge of attempting to elude officers.
