Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the 100 block of Sunnyview Lane in Depoe Bay Monday evening on a reported accidental shooting. Kenneth Ames, 45, called 911 to report that he had accidentally shot his wife, Lovena Terry, 47, with a 22 caliber pistol. Lovena Terry, who was still conscious and talking, also talked to the dispatcher and confirmed it was an accident.
She was transported by ambulance to the hospital and later by Reach helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland. Sheriff’s deputies report she’s receiving treatment for a non-life threatening wound.
Deputies have concluded that Mr. Ames was drunk at the time of the shooting and that the firing of the gun was accidental. However, the investigation continues to determine if any criminal charges are in order under the heading of reckless endangerment, possession of a fire arm while intoxicated, pointing a gun at another human being, etc. That decision lies with the District Attorney’s Office.
