Newport Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball League Registration Now Open!
Youth basketball registration is now open for grades 1 through 8.
Young athletes enrolled in our youth basketball program get the opportunity to play games against teams from all over Lincoln County. Practices are held on week nights at various locations within Newport. The 1st-6th graders play their games on Saturdays, and the 7th and 8th grade play Monday and Thursday nights.
The 7th and 8th grade play a split season and the boys play the first season this year, which means we will be having the first practice at 7:00pm on November 3rd at Newport Intermediate School. We will then divide into individual teams and assign practice times.
The 1st – 6th grade will have 2 skill assessments. The schedule is as follows:
Saturday November 12th & 19th
9:00am-10am 1st and 2nd Grade
10:30am-12:00pm 3rd and 4th Grade
12:30pm-2:00pm 5th and 6th Grade
We are now offering parents the option to sign-up their child online. Please visit www.newportoregon.gov/sports and follow the links for online registration.
Registration Deadlines and First Practices
The registration Deadline is November 2nd for the 7th and 8th grade Boys.
We need volunteers to coach teams during the upcoming season. Leagues like this cannot function without the help of volunteers.
Coaches receive free participation for one of their children in the league.
Please contact Liam Hughes at (541) 574 5453 to inquire about coaching.
Score Keepers Needed!
During basketball season we are in constant need of parents or other volunteers to help keep the scorebook and scoreboard during our games on Saturday mornings. Don’t worry if you have no experience. It is fairly simple and we would be more than willing to teach you everything you need to know.
Thanks to a generous donation by the Fred Meyer Fund, we are now able to offer full scholarships to those in financial need. To apply for these scholarships please come in to the Newport Recreation Center and fill out the application. Scholarships will be given on a first come first serve basis, and numbers are limited.
