Provided by Friends of the Lincoln County Animal Shelter
FOLCAS applauds the Lincoln County Commissioners for establishing, at their board meeting yesterday, a promising framework for a multi-organizational, team approach to advise the County on the management of the Lincoln County Animal Shelter. We are thankful that our concerns were heard, and we will continue to work tirelessly for a financially sustainable animal shelter.
We support the Commissioners’ concept of establishing an independent Animal Services District to provide permanent dedicated funding for the animal shelter and Animal Control. We support the Commissioners’ decision to divide revenue from shelter adoption and license fees between the animal shelter and Animal Control according to a specific formula, and we support their decision to require excess revenue from the current property tax levy to be set aside in a dedicated County reserve fund for the future needs of the Lincoln County Animal Shelter.
In the meantime, FOLCAS will continue to do what we have been doing: run the Pick of the Litter thrift store, pay for all shelter animal spay/neuters, publish an annual calendar (2012’s went on sale last week), host an annual golf tournament and other fundraising events, and continue to conservatively invest the money we raise in order to build a sustainable reserve to help ensure the continued availability of excellent shelter services to the animals of Lincoln County and the people who care about them.
