Fishermen’s Wives come through for Newport Food Pantry
Newport Fishermen’s Wives have come through for the “just opened” Newport Food Pantry. Here you see some of the members along with Wives Treasurer Connie Kennedy handing over a $600+ check to Pantry Manager Kathy Myers and her Guy Friday (and husband) Jim Myers. Also pictured is Wives Secretary Bekki Wagner and Wives member Deanne Barnhard with her daughter Ali.
The gift followed another successful annual Newport Wild Seafood Weekend and Great Newport Wild Seafood Cook-Off held last month at Newport’s Port Dock 7. A portion of the proceeds were designated to help the pantry with their ongoing mission to help feed hungry people in Newport, which has become a growing concern as the recession has dragged on. The pantry was created as a partnership with Lincoln County Food Share to more efficiently distribute food to the needy. The pantry is located to the rear of of the First Presbyterian Church at 227 NE 12th in Newport.
Although Food Share provides a great deal of food to the pantry, as it does to pantries county-wide, supplies are limited. So Food Pantry Manager Kathy Myers says there is always a very large need for food donations from the public at large. And, of course money donations as well, no matter how large, no matter how small. The pantry has a simple, straight-forward website that everyone can check out at www.NewportFoodPantry.org
In fact you can visit it by simply clicking here.
