Newport area townspeople will be holding a candlelight vigil to honor the life of 19 year old Cody Myers of Lafayette, near McMinnville. Myers was on his way to the Newport Jazz Festival when he apparently was encountered by accused murderers David Pedersen and Holly Grigsby. Authorities say the encounter proved fatal for Myers, his body found near Mary’s Peak off Highway 34. Pedersen and Grigsby were later pulled over north of Sacramento and jailed for Yamhill and Snohomish County Washington authorities.
Myers was described by his family as a kind, loving and helping young man who was destined for the Christian ministry. They said anyone approaching him for help or assistance always got his best efforts.
The candlelight vigil at Newport City Hall begins at 7:30pm.
