Reaching out to Lincoln County homeless individuals and families kicks off this Thursday at the Newport Church of the Nazarene on NW 12th. More community loving volunteers are needed to help homeless folks find the right kind of help to get their immediate needs met, with additional information to help them escape their homelessness.
Project Homeless Connect (PHC) is this Thursday from 10:00am-3:00pm at the Church of the Nazarene in Newport (227 NW 12th St.).
The event provides over 70 direct resources, services and referrals to homeless families and individuals in Lincoln County. Transit buses will operate free all day: Thursday October 6th.
Each person who attends PHC is matched up with a volunteer-escort to help them navigate all the community services available to them. Guests receive help obtaining identification, medical/dental care, haircuts and even a hot meal. Other services available include: Senior & Disability Services, Pet Care, Personal Care Items, Employment Information, DHS Self Sufficiency/Food Stamps, Clothing Vouchers, Educational Resources, Voter Registration, Legal Aide, Bike Repair… and much more!
The majority of Lincoln Co. homeless are families & individuals in our community who live under the radar. Data from the 2010 LCSD reports there are over 470 youth and families that are living in substandard living situations- in tents, cars, motels, or doubled and tripled up in homes.
PHC is outlined as part of a nationwide model in Lincoln County’s 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness. The event is a community powered partnership, produced by over 200 volunteers, and made possible by many donors and homeless advocate groups.
Everyone is welcome to attend and CONNECT.
