Newport Police say a 37 year old Newport man lies in critical condition at the OHSU Trauma Center in Portland after being Lifeflighted from the scene on north 101 where he was hit by a car Sunday night. Newport Police say the bicyclist was crossing 101 when he was hit hard by a 99 Lexus 300 at 25th and 101. The driver said he was traveling at around 45 mph. Police say the area is fairly well lit but they are not sure whether the bicyclist was in or near a crosswalk.
Police Sergeant Todd Sarazin tells NewsLincolnCounty.com that they are still trying to get all the details of what happened from witnesses and get them compiled to create an accurate account of exactly what happened. The driver of the Lexus was a 24 year old Newport man.
