Liz Olsen of Lincoln County Master Gardeners has sent out a cry for help for assistance in harvesting their vegetable garden next to the old lighthouse at Yaquina Bay Park just west of the north end of the bridge. Olsen said they have an “urgent need for help” in that warm weather and great soil ripened the veggies far quicker than expected. She apologizes for the terribly short notice but help is greatly need and abundantly appreciated.
Olsen says volunteers should gather Thursday, September 22nd, at the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse Garden at 11am and expect to be harvesting furiously for a couple of hours. “Remember,” she says, “many hands make light work!”
The garden is located immediately behind the old lighthouse. Park in the parking lot below, and come up the stairs, and go to the rear of the lighthouse building. Liz Olsen will be the tall brunette with eyes as big as dinner plates frantically wondering if they’ll get it all in, in time!! Much of it will be going to Lincoln County Food Share for needy families.
