Oregon’s unemployment rate stayed relatively the same in August…nearly two years of being high and flat. However, it’s possible (they say) that Portland added over two thousand jobs during the month, but no one appears willing to raise their hand and swear to it. In Lincoln County, August’s unemployment rate rose one-tenth of a percent July to August to 10.1%. Benton County including the Corvallis area remained flat at 6.5%, Tillamook County remained flat at 8.9%. Coos County rose to 11.7%. All other areas of the state remained flat July to August with the Portland Metro stuck at 9.1%, Bend at 12.7%, Eugene at 9.6%, Medford at 11.6%, and the Salem area at an even 10%. Statewide, Oregon’s unemployment rate rose .1% in August to 9.6%.
