Family Literacy Center to Host Volunteer Orientation
Prospective volunteers from the community can learn about the services provided at the school district’s four Family Literacy Centers in Lincoln City, Newport, Toledo and Waldport. The variety of volunteer opportunities available range from office duties, to fund-raising, to direct service with students. Volunteers may become involved for one-time events or on an ongoing basis.
Direct one-on-one help for students includes tutoring for students kindergarten through high school, helping students to use and access website resources for homework, and at monthly read and feed events throughout the county.
Lincoln County School District’s Family Literacy and Resource Center in Newport will host an informal information session for prospective volunteers from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27. All interested residents are invited to attend. The Newport Family Literacy and Resource Center is located at 351 S.E. Harney St., at the former Yaquina View school building. Refreshments will be provided.
