A Dodge Caravan with five aboard spun out of control on a curve on Highway 101 near Wheeler Saturday, and was struck broadside by an oncoming pickup. The impact killed two in the Caravan and injured five others in both vehicles.
Oregon State Police troopers say Bobbi Radcliffe of The Dalles lost control her Caravan on a curve just south of Wheeler yesterday afternoon. As it spun out of control, it crossed over the center line and was immediately broadsided by a pickup coming the other way. Inside the Caravan Douglas Arnold,71 and his grandson Douglas Clark Arnold, 8, both from The Dalles, were killed. Driver Radcliffe, and passengers Sandra Arnold, 45, and Kim Arnold, 16, were both injured, Kim Arnold seriously.
In the pickup, driver Chad Perdue, 47 of Castle Rock, WA, and his passenger Averee Perdue, 9, were also transported by ambulance but were later released from the hospital.
State troopers report that seat belts were in use by all, in both vehicles. Troopers say their investigation continues as to exactly what caused the accident.
