As per the wishes of business owners and residents of the Nye Beach area of Newport, the city is installing parking signs along NW Coast, NW Beach and NW 3rd in Nye Beach. The signs that limit parking to three hours were requested and paid for by the Nye Beach Commercial Parking District. Businesses and residents have been concerned for some time that prime parking areas along the streets have been taken up by those who park their vehicles and leave them all day, thereby affecting the convenience of shoppers who visit Nye Beach.
For the month of September, those who park more than three hours on those streets will get a written warning. Starting October first, the ticket books come out.
Parking passes are available for homeowners or lodging establishments affected by the change. Passes may be obtained at the Finance Department window inside Newport City Hall at Avery and 101. Those applying for a parking pass must present identification.
Parking enforcement questions may be addressed to the Newport Police Department at 541-574-3348.
