Music among the vegies in the Yachats River Valley 

This Saturday’s (August 13) 12th Annual Yachats River Valley Farm Tour offers visits to small working family farms, breathtaking views along the Yachats River; idyllic meadows; fresh vegies, fruits, plants, and cut flowers; homemade baked goods; and classical recorders, traditional and indigenous drumming, Native American flutes, andaccordions….  

Join the Newport/Oregon Coast Community Drum Circle, featuring multicultural traditional and indigenous rhythms and Mary-Beth Nickel on the Native American flutes, the classical Oregon Coast Recorder Society, and Jim and Shirley O’Brien, accordionists from Yachats, at the last stop on this year’s 12th Annual Yachats Valley Farm Tour at The Ranch, a working grass-fed cattle ranch on the Yachats River.

The music starts at 10:00 a.m. The self-guided Farm Tour, along the Yachats River Road heading east from Yachats, is open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with six working farms six working farms, marked at the entrances, participating and welcoming visitors. 

The Ranch, 10740 South Fork River Road, also offers a lovely Mill Pond, a variety of livestock – including, cows, chickens, and geese – wandering the pastures and barnyard; shade trees and picnic tables; plus free hot coffee and home baked goods, honey and jams for sale. And you can even bring your own hand drum and a lawn chair to join in on a “Country-Style Barnyard Drum Circle.” 

At the other end of the tour, Seeds of Oregon, the first stop out of Yachats, will have fresh vegetables and plants for sale. The Little Red Coop, at mile marker 5, offers a selection of baked goods. Forks Farm at the junction of the North and South Forks of Yachats River Road is offering organic fruits, blueberries, cut flowers, jams, produce and handmade aprons. Turn right at the intersection and follow the South Fork to Wind River Farm and the Rasa Clay Works, offering fruit, produce and award-winning locally-made pottery. Yaquina Nursery, a nationally known nursery offering cacti and succulents from all over the world is next. The Ranch is just up the South Fork from the Nursery.
