Newport 60+ Activity Center Offers Free Line Dance Classes – 20 SE 2nd Street, Newport
Are you looking for a way to stay fit and healthy? Line dancing can give you a great mind-body workout. It improves memory skills by requiring you to remember dance steps and sequences. It can help strengthen bones and muscles, increase stamina and flexibility, improve your posture and balance, and give you the opportunity to socialize at the same time. And you don’t need a partner. We will do dances such as Gypsy Queen, Mamma Maria, Ready to Fly, Skinny Genes, and Waltz Across Texas to all kinds of music, not just country western.
Two new weekly line dance classes will be added to the 60+ Activity Center schedule beginning Wednesday, July 13. Beginning line dance class will be held 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. This class is designed for people who have never line danced as well as those who want to review basic line dance steps or just enjoy doing easier dances to slower music.
The Improvers class will be held on Wednesdays from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. This class is for those dancers who are already familiar with line dance steps and dances.
The Intermediate class, which will be held on Wednesdays from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., is for more experienced dancers. In this class you will be doing a variety of dances, some quite complicated, and some quite fast, but still fun.
Dancing has a way of brightening up a person’s day. Come join us, kick up your heels and have fun. Remember, you’re using your brain as well as getting great physical exercise.
