County Commissioners leaning toward higher trash pickup rates – recent year rates got no increase

A couple of trash pick-up companies in Lincoln County – Thompson Sanitation and Dahl Disposal – are headed toward raising their rates if the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners allow it.  Both companies didn’t get a rate hike in a long while so they’re looking for a rate boost from customers – right around 9 to 10% or so.  Final decision on the new rates will be determined next week by the Board of Commissioners..

Another issue that’s been in the wings is tightening rules and regulations surrounding mass gatherings.  Large gatherings of people in a lightly populated rural county make the public and local governments a little nervous – including law enforcement. So there will be more dialog on the subject in time for summertime events.

And good ole summertime fireworks may disrupt a few gathers here and there.  Lincoln County cities demand their own rules on how fireworks must be handled.  Typically the county areas are in line with the cities but caution with fireworks is the way to go.

And the commissioners got an update on how Lincoln County residents are coping with Covid-19.  Taking an elevated view of how the disease is behaving, it appears that the latest strain of the virus is not as vicious as a couple of versions at the beginning of the pandemic.  But commissioners agreed that we’re not out of the woods yet.  But a good sign is that Covid vaccinations for very young children are kicking into gear.
