Breakthrough for peace and quiet?

This was the week that a religious organization agreed to “turn down the music” at South Beach. The South Beach Church was originally built for industrial or commercial operations on city-owned property.  But for quite a while the building has been labeled by its neighbors as a “disruptive, loud musical invasion of their neighborhood’s peace and quiet.”  And that loud religious events have been going on for years.

The Newport City Council has threatened to “lower-the-boom” on the situation.  The council reminded the “church renters” that they’re using city-owned property and that loud noises and loud music from the church violates city rules and regulations.

A church representative was admonished by the City Council telling him that a large area of the South Beach neighborhood is “fed up” with the situation.

The church representative said they will cut back on the volume – but specifically how much was not mentioned.  There was talk about law enforcement being in charge of measuring the volume of the music. The City Council demanded that the music volume be turned down to levels that are typical of average, law abiding Newport neighborhoods.
