Earth Day Weekend Celebration in Newport (with no speeches)
“Party with your Mother!” proclaims the flyer inviting the entire Lincoln County community to join local environmentalists and the Newport/Oregon Coast Community Drum Circle on April 23 in front of Newport City Hall for the first live Lincoln County Earth Day Celebration in three years, for the 52nd Anniversary of Earth Day.
The live-and-in-person gathering features a free concert with World Beat percussionist Chandler Davis, members of the drum circle, and special guest musicians on Saturday, April 23 (rain or shine) on the lawn and front porch of Newport City Hall, on Hwy 101, from Noon to 4:00 p.m.
And no scheduled speeches.
Individuals and organizations are invited to “show your appreciation for our beautiful planet or express your concerns for its future in your own way.”
Rather than the usual (endless) line up of speakers, participants are invited to set up tables on the lawn and bring their own banners, signs, and leaflets; related artwork; and “Earthy” music.
The drum circle will have microphones set up for experienced musicians who want to sit in (bring your own chair), or you can bring your drum or other rhythm instrument to join in from the audience. There will be plenty of room for dancing, and dancers of all kinds (and skill levels) are “very much” invited.
The family friendly, all-ages event is sponsored by 350 Oregon Central Coast. Contact Davis at email@example.com for information on the music, or Bill Kucha at firstname.lastname@example.org for other details.
