Newport High School is recruiting young people to learn how race sailboats

Yaquina Bay Yacht Club Press Release February 9th

Youth sailors wanted, no experience necessary! The youth sailing team, which is a club sport at Newport High School is looking for students interesting in joining the team. The Newport Sailing Team competes with other high school teams throughout the northwest.  Students in grades 8-12 can compete in racing small sailboats. The youth sailing program is run by the Yaquina Bay Yacht Club (YBYC) in partnership with Lincoln County School District (LCSD) and the Oregon Boating Foundation (OBF).  Students throughout LCSD are welcome to join the team and in past years home schooled, Newport High, Newport Middle, and Taft High students have participated with most coming from Newport High School. Boats, instruction and coaching are provided by YBYC and students meet and have the “land based” portion of their learning at the OBF floathouse located at Port Dock 7 at the Port of Newport on the north side of Yaquina Bay in the City of Newport. Head Coach Greg Krutzikowsky will be visiting Newport High School on February 17 and Newport Middle School on February 11 for brief lunchtime meetings for all students, both boys and girls interested in sailing this spring. The only prerequisite is that students are able to swim.
