What do you get when surfers and garbage collectors combine forces? Well, you get clean beaches, prize awards and a good feeling that you’ve done the Central Coast a big favor. Surfrider Foundation is teaming up with North Lincoln Sanitary, Thompson Sanitary and a variety of surf shops up and down Lincoln County, to clean up the beaches in preparation for Spring with a lot of locals and tourists enjoying clear skies, notable surf and CLEAN beaches galore. The seasonal wrap-up in their three month clean-up program will launch this Saturday, 2pm, February 12th.
The many volunteers working the clean-up will be eligible to win prizes donated by the surf shop partners and the Surfrider Foundation. The grand prize is a 7-foot 6-inch Lib Tech Pickup Stick Surfboard, donated by 10 Barrel Brewing – the beer probably best consumed on the beach rather than chug-a-lugging on a 10 foot wave and “wiping out.”
To be part of the clean-up, volunteers can bring their own pick up bags and gloves at surf shops listed below:
• ZuhG Life Surf Shop, 3219 SW Highway 101, Lincoln City;
• Pura Vida Surf Shop, 845 First St., Otter Rock;
• South Beach Surf Shop, located in Aquarium Village 3031 Ferry Slip Road, #619, South Beach.
To prevent anyone walking on the beach feeling lonely, volunteers are welcome to pick up trash at any Lincoln County beach,. They can drop off their beach debris at any of the partner surf shops (listed above) before 2 p.m. Saturday and they’ll receive a ticket to see if they win the grand prize.
