And the housing search goes on…We’re not building affordable housing fast enough!

The State of Oregon is “pausing” rental assistance applications as of December 1.  Proof of an application for rental assistance can help keep someone from being evicted.  Attached is information, in English and Spanish, from the Oregon Emergency Rental Assistance Program.  Please share the information widely, post it to your social media, and make sure your clients and community members are informed.
The State estimates that the “pause” will last about 6 weeks but no one really knows for sure how long it will last–or knows what role, if any, the Legislature or Governor will play to provide other assistance to tenants during that time.
Applying for rental assistance NOW is important for all tenants behind in rent–it not only is an accessible benefit but also a potential defense to eviction.  If someone receives an eviction notice, they can call our Legal Aid office at 541.265.5305 or the Eviction Defense Hotline at 888.585.9638.
