The Rec Center and Library have challenged each other to see who’s patrons can collect the most people and pet food between Dec 1stand 22nd. Here is a quick write up and I have attached a flier. Let me know if you have questions and thanks for helping us spread the word! I have copied Kathryn, the contact over at the Library as well. Thanks!
Are you ready for a food fight for good? The Newport Rec Center and Newport Public Library have challenged each other to a Food Drive Battle. Patrons can bring nonperishable people and pet food to their favorite facility between Wednesday Dec 1st and Wednesday 22nd. The facility who collects the most food wins! “We wanted to inspire people to collect food and thought a competition would be fun,” says Recreation Program Specialist Jenni Remillard. “While the Library has some amazing patrons, the Rec Center is totally going to win…” Newport Adult Services Librarian Kathryn Hoover countered back “Our Library patrons are very supportive of the Library and are going to help us blow the Rec Center away!” It’s all in good fun though and for a good cause. Pet food will be donated to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter and people food will go to Food Share. “Although we distribute food year-round, winter months and the holidays can put added stress on families and individuals trying to make ends meet. Community food drives enable us to meet the increasing need for food assistance in Lincoln County,” states Nancy Mitchell, Executive Director of Food Share of Lincoln County. “Our most needed items are peanut butter, low-sugar canned fruit, low-sugar jam and jelly, packaged dried fruit, chili, cereal, hearty soups, and canned tuna, chicken or salmon.” For updates on the Food Drive Battle, visit the Rec Center’s and Library’s Facebook pages.
