Lincoln City Senior Center – Don’t forget your face masks…even if you’re fully vaccinated!! The CDC says so…
After being shut down for sixteen months, last July the Lincoln City Senior Center began the process of restarting programs and welcoming members to return. Remnants of the pandemic required that the safety measures imposed by the Governor of Oregon and the City Council be followed. Some members are hesitant to expose themselves to potential risk, so the process of “getting back to normal” is slow and ongoing. The Senior Coastal Tymes, that accompanies these remarks today, is the second issue as we move forward in anticipation of better days.
The dawn of email empowers the Senior Center to share this newsletter with people, some scattered throughout the United States; others living throughout the greater City community. Each issue seeks to make the reader aware of local trends, history and updates that pertain to happenings at the Senior Center. Since the inception of the newsletter ten years ago, Frank King has provided “The Beach Roundup” which reflects his life experiences and values over the past ninety-nine years.
Even though the printer occasionally balks, we once again have been able to print two hundred copies of the newsletter. These are distributed to local businesses and made available to members who have not yet acquired the skills to view the newsletter online.
Lincoln City, incorporated in 1965, has emerged from the industries of fishing, timber and dairy to become a cultural center that attracts tourists. The lead article on page one, written by Dan Beck, illustrates the process of change that has generated both challenge and enticement for the permanent residents. On Page four, Jeff Syrop depicts the history as the city has evolved. The second page is reserved for short messages that speak to what is occurring within the Senior Center. If you enjoy this newsletter, feel free to forward it to your friends. I will be happy to add any potential readers if the email addresses are sent to me.
